York (Pa.) Announces 2012 Schedule, Captains

YORK, Pa. York College (Pa.) has released its 2012 schedule and captains, while head coach Jen Muston is slated to present at the 2012 U.S. Lacrosse Convention in Philadelphia.

"We have an opportunity to have a great year," Muston said. "We started to realize some quality success on the field last season. With the players we have coming back in addition to our crop of newcomers, we believe that this could be a terrific year."

York, which posted a program-best 13-4 record in 2011, is set to square off against a challenging yet opportunity-filled slate. Throughout the schedule, the Green and White take on five participants from the 2011 NCAA Tournament including two which reached the Elite Eight. Inside their Capital Athletic Conference slate, the Spartans host both Mary Washington (Mar. 31) and Salisbury (Apr. 7) while the non-conference schedule sports Franklin & Marshall (Mar. 6), Messiah (Mar. 24), and Stevens Tech (Apr. 10).

"It is important for us to compete against some of the best teams in Division III," Muston concluded. "Obviously this is going to be a testing season for us but one with great possibility. As long as we focus on getting better everyday we have the opportunity to be very successful."

The Spartans enter the season with senior Ashley Kanzler and juniors Leah Schultz, Katie Vautier, and Kim Wayson taking the leadership roles as captains for the 2012 season.

"We are confident in our captains, in what they will bring to the table," Muston said. "They understand what we are looking for here at York and what we expect from each and every player."

Muston, who was named the CAC Women's Lacrosse Coach of the Year in 2011, is set to make her third appearance as a presenter at the U.S. Lacrosse Convention. In her fifth year at the helm of the York program, Muston will present "Individual and Team Offensive Tactics and Strategies" on Saturday, January 14. She will also be part of a recruiting panel that day.

"This is a tremendous opportunity and I am humbled to be able to present to such an outstanding group of coaches," Muston said. "I look forward to a fun convention and a great 2012 season."
