Marymount Lacrosse Releases 2012 Schedule

Arlington, Va. Marymount University's men's lacrosse team has released its 2012 schedule, as announced by head coach Jon Reynolds on Monday. The Saints begin a new era with the debut of their new home field at Long Bridge Park as they look to return to Capital Athletic Conference and regional prominence.

Overall, the Saints will host eight games at the new facility including five CAC games.

"I can't say enough about the excitement this new facility has brought to program," Reynolds said. "This is something we have waited a long time for but I can easily say it was worth the wait."

Opening the season and christening the new field on February 25, Marymount will host St. Vincent in the first intercollegiate contest played at Long Bridge Park. Other non-conference games for the Saints include trips to former CAC rival Catholic, in-state foe Virginia Wesleyan, DeSales and Washington & Jefferson as well as home tilts against Penn State-Abington and Gwynedd-Mercy.

Marymount kicks off the 2012 conference slate against CAC rival Mary Washington on March 17 as part of one of two doubleheaders with the women's team. Always a tightly contested game, the showdown has been decided by just one goal in four of the last five years. The twinbill will also be part of a day-long event celebrating 20 years of Saints men's lacrosse.

"We feel that many things have fallen into place this year for us and we intend to continue that into 2012," said Reynolds. "We were able to get in one of our largest recruiting classes to date and will look to build on the successes we had in the fall. These additions, and those to the coaching staff, are a sign that the program is in great shape heading into the next 20 years."

Other key games include home showdowns against defending NCAA Division III National Champions Salisbury on March 31 and perennial powerhouse Stevenson on April 11. Salisbury claimed the CAC Tournament championship in 2011 while Stevenson won the regular season championship last year.

Looking to return to the postseason for the first time since 2008, the Saints have Saturday, April 21, marked on their calendars for the first round of the CAC Tournament. Semifinal games are slated for April 24 with the finals on April 28.

Marymount returns 19 letterwinners from 2011 and welcomes 20 newcomers, including 18 freshmen and a pair of transfers. Despite the Saints influx of new talent, they are also well seasoned with the return of eight seniors and nine upperclassmen.
