Inaugural Saint Rose Schedule Announced

ALBANY The College of Saint Rose has announced its schedule for the inaugural 2012 campaign. The Golden Knights will play their first season on the Dr. R. Mark and Kathleen Sullivan Field at the Plumeri Sports Complex. Saint Rose will participate in 13 regular-season contests with seven dates on its home synthetic surface under the direction of head coach Tim Robbins.

The Golden Knights will play as an independent this season, before officially tackling a challenging Northeast-10 Conference schedule in 2013. The NE-10 is among the nation's most prestigious NCAA Division II lacrosse conferences with its membership claiming six national titles within the past 14 seasons. The conference also had four squads ranked among the nation's top-12 teams according to this year's final United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) poll.

Saint Rose will host NE-10 members Merrimack, Southern New Hampshire and American International. The Golden Knights will also visit Le Moyne, Adelphi, Franklin Pierce, Assumption and Saint Anselm. Saint Rose also hosts Dominican, Chestnut Hill, Mercy and Roberts Wesleyan; and will visit reigning National Champion Mercyhurst as well.

The first official contest of 2012 is scheduled for 1:00 pm on Saturday, February 25 when the Golden Knights head to upstate rival Le Moyne. The Dolphins, who are ranked fifth in the Lacrosse Magazine Preseason Poll, went unbeaten (10-0) in NE-10 play for the 11th time in 12 years last spring.

Saint Rose kicks off its home slate on Wednesday, February 29 when Dominican arrives in Albany for a 7:00 pm meeting. The Golden Knights then embark on a three-game road trip at Adelphi on Saturday, March 3. The Panthers fell 9-8 to Mercyhurst in last year's national championship game. Saint Rose does not return home until Sunday, March 25 when Merrimack visits for a 4:30 pm encounter.

All told, 29 student-athletes will appear in a Golden Knights uniform when things officially get underway in February. Senior midfielder Joe Pompo (Fairmont, NY/West Genesee) has been selected as the lone team captain. Pompo, a transfer from the University at Albany, finished tied for fourth in scoring for the Great Danes with 19 points as a junior. He is a former America East Conference All-Rookie pick as well.

Robbins' staff is comprised of assistants Mark Cometti and Brendan Gleason in addition to Brendan McCarthy, who will serve as a volunteer assistant. Cometti doubles as the offensive and recruiting coordinator. Cometti spent a majority of the past year on the recruiting trail in preparation for the upcoming 2012 campaign. Gleason will aid Robbins as a defensive assistant with a strong focus on developing the team's defensemen. He furthermore facilitates all in-game substitutions. Meanwhile, McCarthy's focus is on developing the Golden Knights' attackers and goalies.
