South Easton, Mass. Merrimack has been picked to finish third in the Northeast-10 Coaches Preseason Poll released Wednesday afternoon. The Warriors also received one first place vote. Merrimack received 83 points coming in, just behind Le Moyne, which received 91 points, and #2 Adelphi, which topped the poll and received 99 points.

The Warriors finished the 2011 season with a 11-6 overall record, while posting a 6-4 conference record. Merrimack defeated the Le Moyne Dolphins in the conference semifinals and went on to lose in the Northeast-10 finals to Adelphi.

Four Warriors, senior defender Peter Schielke (Ridgefield, CT), senior faceoff specialist Nick Maggio (Winchester, MA), junior attacker Corey Lunney (Little Silver, NJ) and junior midfielder Mike Perdie(Wading River, NY) earned preseason All-American honors by Inside Lacrosse Magazine.

Schielke, a first-team selection, caused a team-high 27 turnovers while tallying 37 ground balls on defense, earning first-team all-conference honors in 2011.

A first-team selection, Maggio was arguably the best faceoff specialist in the league if not the country last year winning 69% of his draws, setting school records for faceoff percentage, faceoff wins, ground balls in a season and ground balls in a career, while netting one goal and four points.

Lunney, a second-team member, was named NEILA All-New England Player of the Year last season after compiling a team-high 39 goals and 53 points. Lunney scored atleast one goal in all 17 games last season, including nine in the playoffs. He also earned first-team all-conference honors in 2011.

An honorable mention selection, Perdie was third on the team in scoring in 2011 racking up 13 goals and 31 points in 13 games, while registering 15 groundballs.

Schielke was the only defender from the Northeast-10 on the first-team, while Maggio is just one of two faceoff specialists on the entire All-American squad. Merrimack opens its 2012 season at Dominican on Tuesday March 6 at 4:00 pm.
