Strong First Half Gives Notre Dame Win over Griffins
PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – Chestnut Hill College scored the game's first goal, but College of Notre Dame of Maryland scored the next 12 and pulled away for a 15-3 Atlantic Women's Colleges Conference road victory Saturday afternoon.
The Griffins (0-3 overall, 0-2 AWCC) took a 1-0 lead as junior midfielder Morgan Nichols (Bel Air, Md./C.Milton Wright High School) scored off an assist by freshman attacker Stephanie Carlyle (Essex, Md./Our Lady of Mount Carmel High School) 1:15 into the contest.
Notre Dame (4-2, 1-0) then reeled off 12 straight scored, 11 in the first half, to take command of the game.
Junior midfielder Tina Money (Millington, Md./Queen Anne's County High School) and sophomore attacker Amelia Yatto (Crofton, Md./St. Mary's High School) each scored four goals to lead the Gators. Yatto's four goals represented a career-high.
Junior midfielder Sara Breidenbaugh (Glen Arm, Md./Perry Hall High School) added two goals and had three assists, as well, for Notre Dame. Senior goalkeeper Monique Boone (Newark, Del./Newark High School) made eight saves for the Gators.
Notre Dame returns to the Philadelphia area for a non-conference game on Wednesday, March 29, 2006, at 4 p.m. against Bryn Mawr College.
