Catawba Drops First-Ever Game at Lenoir-Rhyne
HICKORY, NC -- Catawba's newest sport, women's lacrosse, took to the field for the first time on Satruday afternoon, falling 19-3 to Lenoir-Rhyne at Moretz Stadium. The Bears, in their second season with women's lacrosse, improve to 1-1, while the Catawba Indians are 0-1.
Catawba's goals were scored by Samantha Santoli (Nesconset, NY), Ana Cooke (Fairfax, VA) and Chelsey Ferraro (Tampa, FL). L-R's Sarah Minick led all scorers with five goals while Lauren Donovan added four goals and two assists to spearhead the Bears' win.
L-R raced to an 11-2 halftime lead and never looked back. Lenoir-Rhyne freshman Mary Minick added two goals and three assists as the Bears held a 40-12 advantage in shots taken and a 50-30 edge in ground balls.
Catawba will play its home opener on Sunday at noon against Rollins.
