Guilford Drops One-Goal Decision to Sewanee
ROME, Ga. - Meg Walton scored five of her game-high seven goals in the second half, including the game-winner with 2:54 to play, in the University of the South's 11-10 lacrosse win over Guilford College Sunday.
Walton also had an assist for the Tigers (2-0), who erased an 8-4 halftime deficit and limited the Quakers (1-1) to two second-half goals.
E'leyna Garcia scored six times for the Quakers and her free-position shot with 12:39 left tied the game at 10-10 and ended a 5-0 Tigers' run. Guilford had three shots to tie the game after Walton's go-ahead score, but Sewanee goalie Amy Nusbaum made two of her game-high 12 saves and a shot by the Quakers' Summer Frazier hit the post.
Frazier scored twice for Guilford and Lily Colley added a goal and two assists. Quakers' goalie Liza Mettler made 11 saves.
Guilford hosts Marymount (Va,) University Saturday (2/25) at 2:00 p.m.
