Redlands Defeats Pomona-Pitzer in Home Opener

After a two-game road stint, University of Redlands rolled to an 18-9 Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) victory over Pomona-Pitzer Colleges during its home opener at Farquhar Field on Wednesday. The Bulldogs gained the early momentum on a 3-0 lead and dominated control of the game through the final whistle.

Benefiting from substantial depth in its roster, Redlands utilized 22 players, which included nine different goal-scorers, in its third win of the season.

The Bulldogs uncorked seven netters while allowing just two scores in the opening period. The second half proved to be somewhat tighter but Redlands' lead was never in question.

Overall, the Maroon and Gray held the advantage in most statistical categories, including shots (34-18), ground balls (25-17), and draw controls (19-9).

Six Redlands players provided a multi-goal effort, headlined by junior attack player Aimee Dewan's (Alamo, CA) four goals. In addition, four of the team's eight assists came off of senior midfielder Megan Prickett's (Poway, CA) stick.

Junior attack player Crystal Painter (Lake George, NY) supplied a well-rounded performance for the Bulldogs, recording team-leading numbers in draw controls (4) and ground balls (6) to go along with three goals.

Senior goalkeeper Ana Martinez (Pleasanton, CA) patrolled the Bulldogs' cage in a complete-game showing with seven saves in the win.

Pomona-Pitzer's sophomore midfielder Logan Galansky (Denver, CO) offered four goals and four draw controls in the loss.
