Franklin & Marshall Falls to No. 11 Lynchburg

LYNCHBURG, Va. Franklin & Marshall fell to No. 11 Lynchburg, 11-4, in non-conference men's lacrosse action Saturday afternoon. The Diplomats dropped to 1-1 on the season while the Hornets improved to 2-1.

F&M struck first when Tristan Miller took a Colin McKew pass and found the back of the net to put the Diplomats up 1-0 at 12:44. The Hornets quickly answered with three straight goals to go up 3-1 with under two minutes to play in the first quarter. Freddy Schweitzer made it a 3-2 game with a goal with 50 seconds remaining in the first.

Lynchburg tallied three goals in the second quarter and kept the Diplomats off the board to go into the break with a 6-2 advantage. The Hornets added another point a minute into the third, before Jordan Barr found Billy Kempner at 10:02 to put F&M within four, 7-3.

That was a close as the Diplomats would get the remainder of the game as Lynchburg struck two more times in the third to up 9-3. The Hornets added two goals in the fourth before Barr tallied one of his own with a little over three minutes remaining in the game to make it 11-4.

Andrew Setian won 10 of his 18 faceoffs and picked up three ground balls. Scott Beury forced four turnovers and collected five ground balls.

Cameron Setian stopped 11 shots in the loss and fell 1-1 on the season. Franc Cook picked up the win for Lynchburg with 17 saves.

The Diplomats return to action on Wednesday in their home opener against Gwyneed-Mercy at 4:00 p.m.
