American Wins 2nd Straight, Downs Columbia

The American University lacrosse team picked up its second straight win of the season with a 14-7 victory over Columbia on Saturday afternoon. Kimberly Collins led the Eagles with five goals and one assist in the game.

American (2-0) opened the game with three straight goals from Collins, Emily Stankiewicz and Samantha Marshall before Columbia (0-1) was able to get on the board with a goal from Paige Cuscovitch.

But Collins continued to dominate, recording three straight goals in just under two minutes of play for the 6-1 Eagles' lead. Columbia scored at 15:09 to stop Collins' run and Jordan Harrington recorded her first career goal for the 7-2 American lead at the end of the first half.

The Lions got on the board early in the second half but the Eagles were able to score three straight goals once again to take a 10-3 lead with 22:35 remaining in the second half.

Columbia added their fourth goal of the game but the Eagles answered with three goals for the fourth straight time, with Jamie Silverman recording her first career goal at American. The Lions fought back with three straight goals of their own but Emily Burton tallied a goal with just six seconds remaining in the game to secure the 14-7 final score.

Collins also posted a team-high six points as Burton tallied three goals for the Eagles and Harrington recorded two. Stankiewicz and Emily Maher each posted three caused turnovers as Kaska Komosinski recorded five saves in the victory.

Kacie Johnson and Taylor Gattinella led the Lions with three goals apiece in the game.

The Eagles return home on Wednesday, February 29 when they host Richmond at 3:30 p.m.
