Vu Nets Hat Trick in Blazers' Setback to King's

FREDERICK, Md.--Hood College (1-2) fell to the visiting King's College (Pa.) Lady Monarchs (1-0), 21-8, in a nonconference game amid fierce wind gusts at Thomas Athletic Field Saturday.

Both teams were quick to strike in the first minute of the contest as Hood's Caitlin Lawrence and King's Chelsea Manes notched unassisted scores. The Blazers and Lady Monarchs traded goals over the next several minutes before the Lady Monarchs snapped a 3-3 tie with four unanswered goals to go up 7-3 with 11:45 to play in the period.

A little less than four minutes later, Lawrence set up Bailey Czech for her sixth goal of the season and Kati Vu ripped her second goal 56 seconds later to trim the margin in half. But King's closed the half with three more scores and took a 10-5 edge into the break.

King's netted the first two goals of the second half but Hood's Jennifer Fischer got into the scoring column when she registered her first goal of the spring on a free position shot to make it 12-6 King's. The Lady Monarchs outscored the Blazers, 9-2, the rest of the way for their first win of the season.

Vu finished with a hat trick on the day and moved into sixth place on Hood's career goals chart, now with 69 in her 48 games in the blue-and-grey.

Helene Butler made 10 saves between the pipes on the afternoon while Maria Moss tallied four ground balls and Banks controlled six of Hood's 13 draw wins.

The Blazers are back in action Wednesday hosting Albright College at 3:00 p.m. at Thomas Athletic Field.
