Sailfish Blast Georgia State for Victory

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. Exactly one year since their last meeting, Palm Beach Atlantic University defeated Georgia State University, 20-4, on Saturday (Feb. 25) at The King's Academy. PBA controlled the tempo throughout, leading in every statistical category for the win.

The Sailfish (4-1) won the opening faceoff and scored five seconds in, unassisted from Dave Schultz (Annapolis, Md./St. Mary's). As a result, Palm Beach Atlantic led 3-0 five minutes into the first quarter and 5-1 after 15 minutes. Schultz picked up the early hat trick with three goals in the opening session, while sophomore Colin Price (Fairfax Station, Va./Lake Braddock) picked up the other two.

In the second quarter, PBA held Georgia State (0-1) scoreless, while going on a ten goal run through the midpoint of the game. Starting at the 5:09 mark, Palm Beach Atlantic scored six goals in a span of four minutes, starting with a goal from senior midfielder Bobby Hantske (Annapolis, Md./Southern). Goals from freshman Dan Barry (Whitesboro, N.Y./Whitesboro), junior Dennis Koleda (Huntington, N.Y./Harborfields), a fifth from Colin Price, and one from sophomore Jack East (New Orleans, La./Whitefield Academy (Ga.)) gave the Sailfish a 12-1 lead at halftime.

From the outset, the Sailfish went at it again; East added another, from close defenseman Branden Bernstein (Palm Beach Gardens, Fla./Palm Beach Gardens). Bernstein has two points in the last two games and also had a crucial save in the first half. Following a botched clear, Bernstein made a one-on-one save from the doorstep, preserving the early lead.

Senior Joe Ciringione (Merrick, N.Y./Sanford H. Calhoun) registered his fifth point and first goal of the night, unassisted at 10:35 of the third quarter. Later in the third, Ciringione assisted Bobby Hantske at the 2:48 mark, before Hantske assisted Ciringione thirteen seconds later. Another goal apiece from Dave Schultz and Colin Price ended the quarter. Schultz finished with six points (four goals, two assists), while Price finished with six goals.

Palm Beach Atlantic expanded the lead to 20-2 on fourth quarter goals from Kyle Whitmire (Simpsonville, S.C./Hillcrest) and Jesse Vanatta (Springfield, Va./West Springfield).

Despite relenting two late goals, the defensive foursome of Bernstein, Chris Bing (Massapequa Park, N.Y./Massapequa), Justin Shockley (Simpsonville, S.C./Hillcrest), and Jon Grysiewski (West Palm Beach, Fla./The King's Academy) were tough throughout. Senior goalie Cory Ender (Putnam Valley, N.Y./Putnam Valley) finished with three saves on 4 shots, while senior Ryan Talks (Palm Beach, Fla./St. Andrew's) had nine saves on 12 shots.

The 20-goal output was the highest of the season for Palm Beach Atlantic.
