#3 Limestone Gives Rough Welcome to Saint Leo

GAFFNEY, S.C. Scoring on their first nine shots, and 20 of 31 overall, No. 3 Limestone (3-1, 1-0 CC) demolished first year program Saint Leo (1-3) 20-8 while playing all 30 active players in an NCAA Division II women's lacrosse contest on Sunday, February 26.

Sophomore attack Sarah Oor (Uxbridge, Canada) and junior attack Ali Schumacher (Gainesville, Va.) led the Saints with three goals and an assist apiece while senior attack Racquel Prager (Seaford, N.Y.) pushed her Conference Carolinas leading goal total to 13 with three more scores. Senior attack Kelly Lalonde (Henrietta, N.Y.) dished out three assists and junior attack Jessica Williams (Farmingdale, N.Y.) had a pair of scores and an assist.

Sophomore midfielder Katie Farrell (Brooks, Ga.) and junior midfielder Brittany Howard (Oswego, N.Y.) each added two goals while single scores were had by junior attack Chelsea Treat (Penn Yan, N.Y.), freshman midfielder Sam Akl (Port St. Lucie, Fla.), junior midfielder Chelsea Hargett (Ithaca, N.Y.), sophomore midfielder Maia Czarnecki (Oswego, N.Y.) and freshman midfielder Gemma Schaefer (Overland Park, Kan.). Treat also added two ground balls and a pair of draw controls.

Senior attack Sylvia Queener (Penn Yan, N.Y.) produced a pair of assists and junior attack Dara Gorman (Lititz, Pa.) and sophomore midfielder Jessica Aguanno (Delray Beach, Fla.) each had one. Senior goalkeeper Brigid Milchling (Cockysville, Md.) played the first half, allowing one goal and making two saves to move to 3-1 on the season. Junior goalkeeper Rashelle McLellan (East Lyme, Conn.) started the second half and saw action for 20:33 while freshman goalkeeper Megan Smith (Marietta, Ga.) saw the first action of her career over the final 9:27.

The Saints raced out to a 5-1 lead over the first 5:02 of the game behind five different goal scorers and registered 11 straight goals at one point to take a 15-1 advantage with 28:02 remaining in the game. After the Lions benefited from a shot that was redirected into the goal of a Limestone player to make it 15-2, the Saints drilled three straight scores to push the lead to 18-2.

At that point, Saint Leo ripped off five straight goals against the second and third string with the first three of those coming from Stephanie Marran. That narrowed the gap to 18-7 before the Saints closed out the 12-goal victory.

Marran led the Lions with a game-high four goals while Christina Minneci finished with a pair of goals and an assist. Alix Murray and Callie Porcher each had a goal to round out the top performers for Saint Leo. Brittany Millsap started in goal but was pulled after allowing eight goals on eight shots over the first 7:36. She falls to 1-3. Nicole Sirota-Plotnikov took over and played the remaining 52:24, giving up 12 goals and making five saves.

Limestone returns to action when they host No. 13 Gannon on Saturday, February 3. Game time is set for 3:30 p.m. at Saints Field.

Notes: The first 10 shots all resulted in goals, with Limestone delivering nine and Saint Leo one.
