#13 Dickinson Scores at 0:06 to Nip #17 Cabrini

RADNOR, Pa. - Cabrini suffered a heart breaking 12-11 loss today at the hands of Dickinson. The Red Devils tallied the game winner with less than 10 seconds on the clock. The loss evens Cabrini's record at 1-1.

Sophomore Matt Biegel led Cabrini's offense with five points on three goals and two assists. Senior Brian Hill recorded his second consecutive three goal game. Sophomore Corey Elmer and junior Bobby Thorp added two goals each for the Cavaliers.

Dickinson jumped out to an early 2-0 lead less than three minutes into play before the Blue and White rallied. Over the next four minutes, Biegel, Hill and Elmer posted three consecutive goals to take a 3-2 lead midway through the first period.

Biegel and Hill again found the net in the quarter's final minute to give Cabrini a 5-3 lead after one period.

Senior Joe Arrell found Hill at the 13:54 mark of the second quarter, giving Cabrini a 6-3 lead and full control of the game's momentum.

The Red Devils responded with some momentum of their own, outscoring Cabrini 5-0 in the final 10 minutes of the half, including three goals in a 91 second span. At the break, the Cavaliers found themselves down 8-6.

Less than four minutes into the second half, the Blue and White evened the score as Elmer and Thorp scored 27 seconds apart.

After a Dickinson goal, Thorp posted his second score of the day, an unassisted tally to again even the score at 9-9. The teams again exchanged goals late in the third period, with Biegel scoring a man-up goal from Thorp.

The two Top 20 teams went to the fourth quarter with the game tied at 10. The Red Devils retook the lead less the 50 seconds into the final period. Freshman Mike Leyden tied the score at the 9:46 mark when Arrell found him for another Cabrini man-up goal.

Both teams exchanged possessions in the game's final minutes. The Cavaliers peppered the Dickinson defense but failed to find the back of the net.

With less than 20 seconds to play, the Red Raiders turned Cabrini's final shot into a fast break opportunity, finding the net with just six seconds to play.

Senior John McSorley caused three turnovers and fellow senior Andrew Zelinski two. Freshman Anthony DiNenno won 11 of his 25 faceoff chances and secured five ground balls.

Senior Sam Greenberg scored four goals for Dickinson (2-1). The trio of sophomore Brian Cannons and seniors Bobby Kingsley and Ward Gruppo tallied two goals each in the win.

The Cavaliers face another difficult task on Saturday, as the Blue and White host #9 Lynchburg College (2-1) at Edith Robb Dixon Field. The game is scheduled for 12:00 p.m.

(Radnor, Pa.) In an early season match-up of nationally-ranked teams, #13 Dickinson scored with six seconds remaining in the game to post a 12-11 win at 17th-ranked Cabrini on Wednesday.

Senior Sam Greenberg (Owings Mills, Md./McDonogh) scored a game-high four goals, including the game-winner in the final minute, finding the net off an assist from classmate Ward Gruppo (Fairfield, Conn./Fairfield Prep) with just six seconds on the clock. The Devils gained possession on a missed shot with 21 seconds to play. They went the length of the field to net the game-winner, improving to 2-1 on the season.

The hosts opened with five goals in the first quarter to lead 5-3 at the end of one. The Devils answered with five goals, outscoring Cabrini 5-1, to take an 8-6 lead into halftime. Greenberg tallied back-to-back goals to lead the way in the second quarter, scoring twice in a span of just 46 seconds.
