#12 Clemson to Host Georgia Tech, Miami (OH)

Greenville, SC: Collegiate lacrosse returns this weekend to Greenville. Fresh off its 10-3 defeat of #12 Florida State, Clemson will host Georgia Tech and Miami of Ohio. Friday's night game between Clemson and Georgia Tech will be played at 7:00 pm at Sirrine Stadium. The 4:00 pm Saturday Georgia Tech Miami and Sunday's 1:00 pm Clemson Miami games will be played on the new turf field at the Kroc Salvation Army Community Center.

"Last Saturday's FSU Clemson game was by all accounts a rousing success," said Buff Grubb, Clemson head coach. "From our point of view, the win was huge but so too was standing on the sideline and looking across to the crowd on the other side of the field. Quick estimates put the number as high as 400 and thankfully, the vast majority were Clemson fans. Both teams enjoyed the field and the facilities at the Kroc Center and we're grateful for all their hospitality."

"This weekend's games are another effort to increase Greenville's familiarity with lacrosse. Clemson and Georgia Tech have a long standing rivalry. Both teams were charter members of the SouthEastern Lacrosse Conference back in 1987 but the rivalry predates the conference. Both schools have fielded teams as early as the mid 1970s(Clemson) though no one can pinpoint when the two first played. It's shaping up to be a good game as Tech defeated Florida State on Sunday by a score of 10-7"

"Sirrine Stadium will be the site of the MCLA semifinals and finals in May and this gives us a chance to give it a trial run," said Grubb. "We don't expect to find any issues given the stadium has hosted a lot of lacrosse games but there's no harm in being sure, better to find out now rather than in May that we've got a problem."

There will be a $2 admission to enter Sirrine Stadium for Friday's game. Youth players wearing their team jerseys will be admitted free. Games at the Kroc Center are free of charge.

"Miami of Ohio is a rising program competing in the Central Collegiate Lacrosse Conference and their coming to Greenville illustrates one of the most appealing parts of MCLA college lacrosse and that's the opportunity to play teams from all regions of the country. Clemson will be travelling to Colorado for 3 games in mid-March."

Hosting the Saturday and Sunday games will be the Ray and Joan Kroc Salvation Army Community Center and their new state of the art turf field. Located at 424 Westfield Street in Greenville, The Kroc Center opened in the Fall of 2011 and provides a wealth of opportunity and services to the community.
