Moccasins Down Erskine to Remain Unbeaten

The Florida Southern Moccasins scored 14 first-half goals en route to a 22-7 win over Erskine Thursday afternoon in Due West, S.C. With the win, the first-year Moccasins remain unbeaten and improved their win streak to four games. Erskine falls to 1-3 on the season.

The Moccasins struck first by taking advantage of an Erskine turnover, as Caitlin Chase found Katie Ferree for a goal. The offensive attack continued, as the Mocs had four different players each score a goal to take a 5-0 lead with 23:42 remaining in the first half.

After an Erskine goal, the Mocs responded with nine unanswered goals, including two from Rachel Ziter and Lorianne Hoover, to take an 14-1 lead with 3:28 remaining in the first half. In the closing seconds of the first half, Erskine's Amy Calhoun shot found the back of the cage to cut the deficit to 14-2 at the break.

Erskine scored the first goal of the second half before Hoover, Katie Maginn, and Ferree netted three straight goals to extend Florida Southern's lead to 17-3. After trading goals twice, Chase connected with Megan Asper for her fourth goal of the game.

Erskine scored back-to-back goals to cut the lead to 20-7 with 56 seconds remaining in the game. Chase scored twice in the final 32 seconds for the 22-7 final.

Chase led the Moccasins' attack tallying three goals and a season-high five assists, while Hoover added four goals and two assists and Ferree and Mara Mason each tallied four points. Asper led the Moccasins with nine draw controls and three ground balls.

The Moccasins will return to action Wednesday, when they host Belmont Abbey at Bryant Stadium. Game time is 4:00 p.m.
