PSAC Preseason Coaches' Poll for 2012

ERIE, Pa. The Gannon women's lacrosse team has been picked to finish fourth in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Preseason Coaches' Poll released Friday afternoon.

Three-time defending PSAC Champion Lock Haven is the favorite to repeat, securing nine of the 12 first-place votes. West Chester picked up the final three first-place votes and finished second in the voting. The Golden Rams have advanced to the last two NCAA Division II Final Fours, defeating Lock Haven in the national tournament two straight times after losing to the Bald Eagles in the conference finals each time.

Mercyhurst, Gannon and Indiana (Pa.) completed the top five. East Stroudsburg, Bloomsburg, Slippery Rock, Shippensburg and Millersville rounded out the top 10, with Edinboro and Kutztown at 11th and 12th.

Gannon, ranked 12th in the latest Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) national rankings, has split its first two matches on a season-opening Spring Trip. The Lady Knights kicked off the 2012 campaign with an 18-12 victory at Queens (N.C.) Tuesday night, before falling at Pfeiffer (N.C.) 15-13 Thursday afternoon. The trip concludes Saturday, March 3 at sixth-ranked Limestone (S.C.). Game time is slated for 3:30 p.m.

Jess Fugate (Wooster, Ohio/Wooster) leads the team in scoring with 10 goals, five assists and 15 points through two matches. Kimberly Neagle (Auburn, N.Y./Auburn) has five goals, four assists and nine points. Margaret Maslyn (Penn Yan, N.Y./Penn Yan Academy) has played every minute in goal, posting a 13.50 goals against average and .426 save percentage.
