Tippett, Ruane, Ferrara Lead Shepherd by Urbana
SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – Junior midfielder Krista Tippett (Leonardtown, MD/Leonardtown) had five goals, while junior midfielder Nicole Ruane (Sykesville, MD/Century) and sophomore attack Christina Ferrara (California, MD/Leonardtown) each added four to lead Shepherd University to a 21-6 win over Urbana University in women's lacrosse action at Urbana on Saturday.
Freshman attack Hayley Roper (California, MD/Leonardtown) added three goals, while sophomore midfielder Jenny Cavey (Sykesville, MD/Westminster) had a pair.
Sophomore attack Hanna Wharton (Ijamsville, MD/Urbana) freshman attack Georgia Karr (Eldersburg, MD/Liberty), and freshman Alyx Alnbano (Wayne, NJ/ Wayne Hills) had single tallies.
Ferrara and Karr had a pair of assists, while Tippett, Cavey, and Roper each had an assist.
Hannah Walters had three goals and Emily Boerger added two to lead Urbana.
Shepherd jumped out to a 10-2 lead and took a 13-3 advantage into intermission.
Freshman netminder Lily Schmulowitz (Baltimore, MD/Catonsville) recorded four saves, while Emily Brumley had 19 saves for the Urbana.
Shepherd oustshot Urbana, 44-13.The Rams had a 23-24 edge in ground balls.
The Rams improve to 3-0 on the season, while Urbana falls to 0-1. The Rams return to action on Sunday when they travel to Tiffin for an 11:00 a.m. contest.
