Balanced Brockport Attack Earns Win at Alfred

Sophomore Riley Austin (Rochester, NY/Eastridge) scored three goals and junior Jesse Elliott (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa) added two goals and five other players each added a goal to lead College at Brockport to a 10-3 victory over Alfred University Saturday afternoon on Merrill Field in Alfred.

Brockport (1-1) scored twice in the first quarter for the early 2-0 lead and took a 5-1 lead into the halftime intermission. The Golden Eagles were the only team to score a goal in the third period for a 6-1 advantage and Brockport added four more goals in the final quarter to seal the victory.

Elliott scored with 2:11 left to play in the opening quarter with an assist from Austin for the first score of the game. Austin made it a 2-0 lead with the first of three goals with 51 seconds left in the first quarter.

In the second quarter, Alfred (1-1) cut the lead in half 53 seconds into the period but Brockport scored the next six consecutive goals in a streak that extended until midway through the fourth quarter.

In the run, Clifton Jackson (Snyder, NY/Amherst), Austin and Elliott each scored before the end of the first half. Alex Austin (Rochester, NY/Trinity-Pawling) was the lone goal scorer in the third quarter while Nate Thomas (Cortland, NY/Cortland) and Steve Brissette (Marcellus, NY/Marcellus) each scored to open the fourth quarter giving the Golden Eagles a commanding 8-1 lead.

The teams traded goals over the final 5:47 of the game as Keenan Sullivan (Grand Rapids, MI/Forest Hills Eastern) and Riley Austin each scored to close out the Brockport attack.

Junior Cory Banwaree (Port Jefferson Station, NY/Comsewogue) made 17 saves in the Brockport goal.
