Queens Top Saint Anselm in Bonagura's Debut

FLUSHING, N.Y. - Tricia Moran Bonagura's Queens College team was victorious Sunday afternoon in her head coaching debut, as numerous standout performances lifted the Knights to a season-opening, 15-12 triumph over visiting Saint Anselm.

Junior attack Heather Rosen (Holbrook, N.Y.) led all players with five goals and six points, while classmate Sarah Boucher (Oceanside, N.Y.) filled the stat sheet with four points (3 g, 1 a) and game-highs of nine draw controls and five ground balls. Sophomore goalie Kahli Evans (Adelaide, Australia) made 13 saves against eight goals allowed in just under 48 minutes played to earn the victory in net.

The Hawks (1-2) took a 4-2 lead 12-plus minutes into the contest, before a six-goal spurt over an 11:52 stretch put QC ahead for good with 5:34 left in the first half. Rosen had a pair of goals in the run, while senior Meghan Monahan (Amityville, N.Y.; 2 g, 2 a) added a goal and an assist.

Queens never relinquished the lead the rest of the way, and held off a late Saint Anselm charge in which the visitors pulled to within a 14-12 count in the final 45 seconds. Evans made eight of her saves in the second 30-minute stanza to help preserve the victory.

Moran Bonagura's Knights are back in action at home Wednesday afternoon (March 7), when they play host to Assumption College at 3:00 p.m.
