No. 3 Limestone Coasts Past Coker in CC Action

GAFFNEY, S.C. No.3 Limestone men's lacrosse scored on its first two shots of the game in route to posting a 17-4 decision over Coker, in a Conference Carolinas clash and NCAA Division II South Region meeting at "The Rock" on Tuesday, March 6 at "The Rock".

In all, the Saints had 12 different goal scorers, held a 47-11 margin in shots, won 22 of 25 face-offs, successfully cleared on 11 of 12 attempts, led the caused turnover category 14-7, and were plus-26 in ground balls (56-30). The win moves Limestone to 7-0 on the season, 2-0 in conference play, and extends the Saints' in-region win streak to 39 and conference string to 21 games. The Cobras, who are their first season, dropped to 4-2 overall, 1-2 in league play.

The First-Team All-American attack duo of Riley Loewen (Burnaby, British Columbia) and Shayne Jackson (Bowmanville, Ontario) combined for five goals and three assists in limited action as some 45 players saw action for Limestone. Loewen scored a game high three goals, adding an assist while, Jackson, a 2012 Tewaaraton Award Nominee, had two goals and as many assists.

The two were among five to post multiple point games as midfielders Tor Reinholdt (Port Moody, British Columbia), a junior and Randy Waugh (Severna Park, Md.), a senior, added two goals each while junior attack Tyler Baker (Peterborough, Ontario) registered both a goal and assist as did junior attack Corey Rich (Sacramento, Calif.)

Limestone, as noted earlier, dominated at the center "x" winning all but three attempts. Junior Anthony Rodrigues (Lysterfield, Australia) went 14 for 17 with five ground balls while fellow classmate and specialist Jake Ternosky (LaFayette, N.Y.) was perfect in seven tries. Ternosky, who earlier Tuesday was the named the Conference Carolinas Player of the Week, collected a game high seven ground balls.

Eleven Saints were credited with at least one caused turnover, Rich along with senior midfielder Jackson Decker (Port Moody, British Columbia) and fellow classmate, Steven Sauser (Pasadena, Md.) had two each.

Senior Steve Gartelman (Seaford, N.Y.) improved to 7-0 making one save (2 GAA) in 41:18 of action.

For Coker, Tim Ryan (Glocester, RI.) went the distance stopping 11 shots (17 GAA) while Steve Marciano (Shirley, N.Y.), Ryan Vento (Bellmore, N.Y.), Mikey Mazzola (Jupiter, Fl.) and Keith LeClair (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) all scored once.

Limestone returns to action on Saturday, March 10 with a neutral site showdown against No.6 Merrimack at Bishop Spalding in Baltimore, Maryland with the opening face-off scheduled for 1:00 p.m.

GAFFNEY, S.C. Four Cobras scored a goal each in the Coker lacrosse team's 17-4 loss to the nationally ranked No. 3 Saints of Limestone College in Conference Carolinas action on Tuesday afternoon.

Steven Marciano (Shirley, N.Y.), Ryan Vento (Bellmore, N.Y.) and Mikey Mazzola (Jupiter, Fla.) each scored an unassisted goal for the Cobras, while Keith LcClair (Lindenhurst, N.Y.) notched his team leading 12th goal of the season with an assist from John Bretton (Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.).

Goalie Tim Ryan (Gloucester, R.I.) made 11 saves in the net for the Cobras.

The Cobras will now hit the road for a two-game road stint in Pennsylvania where they will take on Chestnut Hill College on Thursday at 1:00 p.m. and Seton Hill College on Saturday at 3:00 p.m.
