Scheibling Has 8 Pts. as #11 Stevens Routs FDU

HOBOKEN, N.J. (March 6, 2012) – Senior quad captain Jenna Scheibling (Long Valley, N.J.) recorded eight points and 10 different players scored goals as 11th-ranked Stevens downed FDU–Florham in a 19-5 rout at the De Baun Athletic Complex Wednesday afternoon. With the win, Stevens moves to 2-0, while the loss drops FDU to 1-2.

The Ducks dominated from the opening draw, scoring the game's first six goals and never looking back. Junior midfielder Spencer Waybright (West Hartford, Conn.) put away a pass from Scheibling to start the scoring 2:25 into the game, and 1:56 later Scheibling started a string of three consecutive unassisted tallies. Senior attack Michelle Buonacuore (Medford, N.J.) scored the Ducks' third of the day 28 seconds later, with sophomore midfielder Kara Rafferty (Bayshore, N.Y.) notching her first of the season with 24:04 left in the opening period.

Scheibling notched back-to-back goals for the Ducks to make it 6-0 at the 16:44 mark thanks to assists from Rafferty and Waybright. FDU (1-2) scored its first of the game with 13:48 left in the first on a tally from freshman Brittany Ribaudo (Flemington, N.J.), but the Ducks came right back with a pair of goals – one from sophomore Gabrielle Gordon (Flemington, N.J.) and one junior midfielder Joey Galligan (Burlingame, Calif.).

The Devils were able to trim the margin to six (8-2) with 5:16 to go in the first, but Waybright netted her second of the half with 4:38 on the clock to send the Ducks into intermission with a 9-2 margin.

Stevens did not let up in the second half, scoring the period's first nine goals. Galligan got things rolling with her second of the game, and Scheibling followed on assist from Galligan. Senior defender Ashley Carey (Mahopac, N.Y.) went coast-to-coast to get her first of the season and put the Ducks up 12-2, with Waybright, Buonacuore and Scheibling notching goals 13, 14 and 15 for the Ducks.

Freshmen Adrienne Mekus (Louisville, Ky.) and Andrea Dragoni (Easton, Pa.) followed with their first career goals, and after an FDU tally, Dragoni scored her second. Freshman attack Bianca Caseiro (Raritan, N.J.) closed out the Stevens scoring with her first career goal, and junior midfielder Katie Rolwood (South Brunswick, N.J.) completed the scoring with a pair for the Devils.

The Ducks ended with a 32-15 edge in shots, scoring on their first six, and also had a 21-13 advantage in ground balls. FDU won 14 of the game's 26 draw controls.

Junior Meg Collins (Marshfield, Mass.) earned the win in the cage for the Ducks, totaling four saves. Freshman Grace Warburton (Lake Hopatcong, N.J.) stopped nine shots for the Devils in the loss.

Scheibling scored five times and handed out three assists for her eight points, also picking up a pair of ground balls. Waybright had a monster game as well, tallying three goals and dishing out three assists. She also had two ground balls and two draw controls.

Buonacuore had two goals and two assists along with two ground balls, while Galligan scored twice and handed out one assists. She also caused a game-high four turnovers and scooped up three ground balls. Rafferty had one goal, one assist, two ground balls and two draw controls, with Dragoni tallying twice and securing a ground ball and draw control. Carey led the defense with four draw controls, four ground balls and three caused turnovers.

Rolwood paced FDU with two goals, and both Courtney Rendinaro (Hillsborough, N.J.) and Ribaudo had three draw controls.

Stevens will return to action on Saturday when it hosts eighth-ranked Trinity College (Conn.) at the De Baun Athletic Complex. Opening draw is set for 12:00 p.m. with all the action being webcast live at www.Empire8.TV.
