Babson Edges Pilgrims to Stay Unbeaten

HENNIKER, N.H. The Babson College men's lacrosse notched three goals in the final quarter of play to move past the New England College Pilgrims, 8-6, Wednesday evening. With the win the Beavers remain undefeated on the season at 3-0, while the loss drops the Pilgrims to 0-1 overall.

The Pilgrims would open the scoring five minutes into play as DJ Sellick (Connetqot, N.Y.) recorded his first collegiate goal unassisted. The Beavers responded with back-to-back goals, including an unassisted tally by senior Jermey Yudkin (Franklin Lakes, N.J.), putting Babson up 2-1 midway through the first quarter. NEC would close out the opening quarter with three straight scores, including another by Sellick and an unassisted goal by James Putney (Mountain Lakes, N.J.) to give the Pilgrims a 4-2 advantage.

The Babson offense came alive in the second quarter of play, as the Beavers outscored the Pilgrims, 3-1, including a man-up goal by senior Tom Mallon (Manhasset, N.Y.), knotting the game at 5-5 heading into halftime.

The two teams battled through a scoreless third quarter of play before the Beavers broke the scoring drought with two goals in a forty-second span of the fourth, resulting in a 7-5 advantage. The Pilgrims would cut the lead to 7-6 as Sam Freihofner (Scarsdale, N.Y.) netted his first goal of the season with 8:59 to play, but Babson junior Alex Patinkin (Providence, R.I.) gave the Beavers some breathing room late when he scored off an assist from senior Cam Caruso (St. Charles, Ill.) with 2:17 on the clock. That proved to be the final goal of the contest as Babson came away with the 8-6 triumph.

Picking up the win in net for Babson was James Whalen (Westwood, Mass.), who finished with 14 saves. In goal for NEC was Nick Aquaviva (Syracuse, N.Y.), who stopped a total of 13 shots on the afternoon.
