Blazers Overpowered by Visiting Messiah

FREDERICK, Md.--Hood College (1-4) fell to the visiting Messiah College Falcons (2-2), 11-3, Wednesday afternoon in nonconference action at Thomas Athletic Field.

Shane O'Keefe netted his second collegiate goal and racked up his fourth assist, while Randolph Clark pocketed his third goal of the spring and Corey Roberts collected his seventh for the Blazers. Clark also earned seven face-off wins.

Cody Hass started the contest in the cage and surrendered five goals while making six saves. Joseph McCulloh spelled Hass in the second quarter and registered eight saves while allowing six goals.

Messiah's Kevan Schellenburg scored the only goal of the opening quarter with 11 seconds left on the clock. Schellenburg struck again 1:25 into the second quarter with his second unassisted score. O'Keefe finished a pass from Michael Gallion 27 seconds later to trim the deficit in half. Messiah then notched five unanswered scores to take a 7-1 advantage with less than a minute remaining before halftime. However Clark sparked the Blazers on the next face-off by scooping the ground ball in a flash and beat Steve Kozuhowski to make it 7-2 at intermission.

On Hood's first possession of the second half, O'Keefe and Roberts connected on the Blazers' third goal of the afternoon. However the Falcons kept the Blazers out of the net the rest of the way, while tacking on four more scores for the final margin.

Messiah's Schellenburg finished with five points on three goals and two assists while Heath Kupecky had a hand in four Falcon goals. Messiah owned a 39-18 edge in total shots and a 41-28 upperhand in ground balls.

The Blazers visit Neumann University Friday for a 5:00 p.m. nonconference tilt.
