Shenandoah Pitches Shutout Against Ferrum

WINCHESTER, Va. - Shenandoah University pitched the second shutout in program history with 15-0 USA South Conference victory over Ferrum College Friday afternoon.

Sophomore Samantha Sisson's opening goal at 26:18 proved to be enough for SU (4-2, 2-0 USA South) because goalkeeper Ashley Cross was outstanding.

Cross made nine saves in the contest, including five on free position shots, and made two point blank saves in the waning moments to preserve her first career shutout.

Ferrum (4-3, 2-1) took 13 shots in the game.

Offensively, SU had a 5-0 lead by the 22:03 mark and the 10-goal rule (running clock) kicked in following a Justina Ludwig to Liz Bereit goal at 14:49.

Sisson, with three goals and two assists, and Bereit, with four goals, did the majority of the damage in the opening half.

Nine different women registered at least one point in the first.

The Hornets, who won 12 of 13 draws in the first half and 13 of 17 on the day, held the ball for most of the second.

SU had its only three goals following intermission during a span of 2:41 late in the stanza.

Bereit led all scorers with five goals, Sisson had the three goals and two assists and Samantha Donaghy dished out three assists.

Eleven women put their name on the scoresheet.

Sisson had a game-high five draw controls with Emily Kogler posting game-highs with four caused turnovers and four groundballs.

Shenandoah is off until hosting Agnes Scott (Ga.) in another USA South Conference contest on Tuesday. Game time is 4:00 p.m.
