Shepherd Offense Clicks to Outgun Millersville
SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – Junior midfielder Krista Tippett (Leonardtown, MD/Leonardtown) scored five goals and freshman attack Georgia Karr (Eldersburg, MD/Liberty) added four goals and two assists to lead Shepherd to a 21-16 win over Millersville at Ram Stadium on Friday.
Shepherd also got three goals apiece from sophomore attack Christina Ferrara (California, MD/Leonardtown) and freshman attack Hayley Roper (California, MD/Leonardtown).
Sophomore attack Nicole Ruane (Sykesville, MD/Century) had two goals and two assists, while sophomore attack Hanna Wharton (Ijamsville, MD/Urbana) also netted a pair and dished out an assist.
Sophomore midfielder Jenny Cavey (Sykesville, MD/Westminster) had a goal and two assists, while sophomore defender Jenna Benke (Baltimore, MD/Mercy) scored a goal.
Ashley Henderson tallied five goals for Millersville. Brooke Fisher added two goals and an assist.
Freshman netminder Lily Schmulowitz (Baltimore, MD/Catonsville) recorded seven saves for the Rams, while Lauren Mateja had 13 saves for Millersville.
Shepherd had a 38-31 advantage in shots and a 30-21 edge in ground balls. Millersville had a 24-16 edge in draw controls.
The Rams improve to 5-0 on the season, while Millersville falls to 0-2. The Rams return to action on Tuesday when they travel to Newberry for 4:00 p.m. contest.
Notes: Shepherd's 5-0 start is the best in program history. The Rams started the 2011 season with a 4-0 mark. Shepherd's win over Millersville is the first victory in program history over a PSAC opponent.
