Explorers Drop Close Contest to Drexel

PHILADELPHIA The Explorers battled in a tight game against Drexel, but came up short, falling 10-7, on Saturday afternoon at McCarthy Stadium.

Freshman Caitlyn Brostrand and junior Lauren McDermott each added a pair of goals for La Salle. Senior Megan Corliss made 19 saves in goal.

The Explorers went up 3-0 by the 21:57 mark after goals by freshman Claire Andrews and Brostrand and a free position conversion by McDermott.

Drexel and La Salle each traded a pair of goals to keep the La Salle lead at 5-2 with 6:55 to play in the first. However, the Explorers offense stalled and the Dragons used three goals before the half to even the score at 5-all by the break.

Two quick Drexel goals at the opening of the half gave the team a 5-7 edge. But La Salle stormed back to knot the contest at 7-all with 14:38 to play after Brostrand and McDermott each added their second goals of the game.

However, the Explorers couldn't hold Drexel, as the Dragons notched three more goals to win the game.

La Salle's loss snaps a four-game winning streak.

The Explorers will have a week off before they face Binghampton on the road next Saturday.
