Butler Saves 18, But Hood Falls to Yellow Jackets

FREDERICK, Md.--Despite a career-high 18 saves from senior goalkeeper Helene Butler, Hood College (2-5) suffered a 19-9 nonconference defeat at the hands of the Randolph-Macon College Wildcats (2-1) Saturday afternoon.

Butler was peppered with 47 Yellow Jackets attempts on the day and eclipsed her previous single-game best of 12 stops set on March 3 against Washington & Jefferson.

Caitlin Lawrence scored five times to bring her team-leading tally on the season to 22. Brigid Ayer netted a pair of goals and assisted on a third while Kati Vu and Bailey Czech added single markers for the Blazers. Also of note, Amalia Franzese assisted on her first goal of the season.

The Yellow Jackets reeled off five unanswered goals on two different occasions in the opening half and led 11-4 at halftime. The Blazers were unable to make a significant dent in the deficit, despite scoring five times in the second half.

Maria Moss and Lawrence led the Blazers in ground balls with four apiece and Lawrence also controlled a team-best six draws.

RMC's Kelly Egan amassed 11 points on the afternoon, scoring eight goals and picking up three assists. Emily Lynch recorded six goals and Alicia McGrew tallied three.

The Blazers will hit the road for their next two contests, both of which will be under the lights. Hood travels to Neumann University Tuesday for a 7:00 p.m. tilt and Shenandoah University on March 21 for another 7:00 p.m. start.
