Rally Falls Short as Royals Falls to Dickinson

HILTON HEAD, S.C.-University of Scranton battled back from an 11-2 halftime deficit before dropping a 15-11 decision to Dickinson College in the first of a two-game Spring Break trip Tuesday morning.

Junior attacker Deanna Giorno (Warrington, Pa./Central Bucks South) led the Royals with four goals, junior midfielder Jilliana DePaolera (Kinnelon, NJ/Kinnelon) had two goals and two assists, freshman midfielder Emily Goss (Morristown, NJ/Morristown) and sophomore attacker Kerry Sullivan (Oceanport, NJ/Shore Regional) scored two goals apiece, and senior attacker Kaela Mahon (Avon-by-the Sea, NJ/Saint Rose) chipped in a goal.

Scranton got a big lift in the second half from sophomore midfielder Kiersten Carnes (Montgomery, NY/Pine Bush), who won five draw controls in the final 30 minutes of play to help Scranton establish itself on offense. She also contributed an assist, as did sophomore attacker Christine Dredger (Glen Head, NY/Lady of Mercy Academy). Junior attacker Kaitlin Lazorko (Philadelphia, Pa./Nazareth Academy) finished with two assists for the Royals, now 2-2 on the season.

Junior Kathleen Smart (Hatboro, Pa./Archbishop Wood) and freshman Emily Towey (Abington, Pa./Abington) split time equally in goal for Scranton and combined to make four saves.

The Royals will return to action on Thursday, March 15, against Denison University (Ohio) beginning at 11:00 a.m.
