Belmont Abbey Outpaced by No. 8 Chargers

Belmont Abbey fell 16-1 to the eighth-ranked New Haven Chargers this afternoon at Alumni Field. The win ups the Chargers record to 3-0, and the loss drops the Abbey's ledger to 3-3.

The game was scoreless for the first 6:40 until New Haven's Alexis Gabbe scored the first of her three goals to give the Chargers a lead they would never lose. The lead grew to 12-0 at the half.

In the second half New Haven scored the first four goals until Elyse Mohn put the Crusaders on the board at the 7:57 mark.

Mohn scored one goal on four shots as the Abbey totaled 11. Laura Dowd won four draw controls. Tory Morgan made eight saves.

Sarah Magnone led New Haven with five goals on six shots. Ashley Ferrandiz and Gabbe posted three each. Nicole McKee and Natalie Lieberman both had two and Kathryn Campbell scored one. Ferrandiz handed out three assists while Gabbe and Magnone had one.
