Nazareth Edges St. Lawrence in Fla. for First Win

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. -- Sophomore Amy McIntosh scored four goals and junior Erinn Wood added one goal and three assists Tuesday as Nazareth secured its first win of the season with a 13-12 triumph over St. Lawrence at Lake Lytal Park.

The victory was the first of the season for the Golden Flyers (1-1), who play Drew Thursday at 12:00 p.m. St. Lawrence is 0-1.

Juniors Alyssa Johnston, Kayleigh Pearson and Megan Cregan each scored twice for the Golden Flyers, who led 8-7 at halftime despite being outshot 17-13 in the first 30 minutes.

Nazareth never trailed in the second half, but the game was deadlocked at 10-10 after the Saints' Holly Noyes scored her third goal of the game with 9:09 left. Cregan and Johnston each converted free-position shots to give Nazareth the lead for good at 12-10. After St. Lawrence scored again, sophomore Kelsey McNaboe converted another free-position opportunity, Nazareth's sixth of the game, to enable the Golden Flyers to regain their two-goal lead with two minutes left.

In a see-saw first half, St. Lawrence took the lead in the first minute, before Nazareth answered with three straight goals -- Pearson, McIntosh and Cregan -- to take a 3-1 advantage. The Saints used a three-goal flurry of their own to regain the lead, but Nazareth took it back on goals by Johnston and McIntosh. Two more goals by the Saints made it 6-5 St. Lawrence, but Nazareth closed the half by scoring three of the last four goals to lead 8-7 at the half.

Wood and Pearson each scored as did freshman Suzanne Gray, who netted her first career goal.

McIntosh opened the second with a pair of unassisted goals to give Nazareth its largest lead at 10-7, before another three-goal flurry by the Saints tied the score for the final time at 10-10.

St. Lawrence had a 30-25 edge in shots, but Nazareth won 15 of 26 draw controls with Johnson winning six for Nazareth.
