LaVaute Hits Century Mark as Hawks Roll by Wells

ONEONTA, NY Hartwick senior Brittany LaVaute (Skaneateles, NY/Skaneateles HS), sophomore Brittany McCabe (Manorville, NY/Eastport South Manor HS), and freshman Emily Jweid (Marcy, NY/Whitesboro HS) each had five-point days as the Hawks disposed of Wells on Wednesday at Wright Stadium, 15-5. LaVaute highlighted the day as she hit the 100-point mark for her career with the Hawks' final goal.

Hartwick is now 3-1 on the season. Wells, playing in its season opener, falls to 0-1.

The Hawks dished out a season-high 10 assists in the game. Ten players also registered at least a point.

LaVaute scored four times to go along with one assist. McCabe and Jweid each added three goals and two assists. Junior Erin Doyle (Syracuse, NY/Corcoran HS) scored two goals and freshmen Jackie Moynihan (West Islip, NY/West Islip HS) and Lisa Littleton (Yorktown, NY/Yorktown HS) added a goal and assist apiece.

Hartwick dashed out to a quick lead with three goals in a 44-second span early in the opening stanza. Moynihan, Jweid, and Hannah Kennedy (Avon, CT/Avon HS) got the goals for 'Wick. Jweid, Littleton, and McCabe earned the assists.

After nearly seven minutes, another three-goal run made it 6-0. Jweid, LaVaute, and McCabe each tallied in one minute, 51 seconds to add to 'Wick's total. Moynihan and Jweid picked up assists with McCabe's goal coming on a free-position shot.

Madeline Bass got Wells on the scoreboard with 15:50 to play in the half. Hartwick, however, would score the half's final four goals to take a 10-1 lead into the break.

LaVaute, Littleton, McCabe and Jweid scored goals in a 4:37-span for the Hawks. McCabe and senior Emily Walsh (Cortland, NY/Cortland HS) would collect helpers.

The Express inched closer early in the second half scoring three of the first four goals. Courtney Grosser scored the first of her two goals on the day at 26:53 and Sarah Allen picked up another 36 seconds later. After McCabe scored off a LaVaute feed at 25:13, Wells would close the gap to seven, 11-4, on Allen's second score with 16:45 left in the game.

Doyle came back with two straight goals at 13:01 and 11:49 to push the Hartwick lead back up to 13-4. Birthday girl Ali Sisco (Kendall Park, NJ/East Brunswick) assisted Doyle's second tally.

LaVaute would score her third with 10:56 remaining. Freshman Carly Newman (Seaford, NY/Seaford HS) then set her up for point number 100 for her career as she buried a shot past Express keeper Bethane Wright.

Grosser closed out the scoring for Wells with 18 ticks to play.

Hartwick goalkeeper Steph Luce (Saratoga Springs, NY/Saratoga Springs HS) tied her season-high with 10 saves. Wright finished with seven stops for the Express.

The Hawks finished with a 30-21 edge in shots and a 19-13 advantage in ground balls. 'Wick also won 13 of 22 draw controls.

Hartwik defender Morgan Galipeau (Bennington, VT/Mount Anthony Union) registered a game-high six ground balls. Kennedy grabbed four and also added a game-high three caused turnovers. McCabe, Littleton and freshman defender Caroline Stanford (Skaneateles, NY/Skaneateles) each caused twoturnovers for the Hawks.

Hartwick's Littleton and Wells' Bass tied for the game-high in draws with five each. LaVaute contributed four draws.

Hartwick is off until March 23rd when it travels to New Paltz for a 4:00 p.m. game.
