R-MC Rallies for Victory at Christopher Newport

NEWPORT NEWS, VA Randolph-Macon erased a second-half deficit by scoring eight of the final nine goals to post an 11-8 men's lacrosse victory at Christopher Newport on Wednesday evening.

R-MC has now won three in a row and five of its last six games to improve to 5-2 on the season. CNU drops to 3-3 on the season.

Randolph-Macon took a 3-1 lead when reigning ODAC Player of the Week Tyler Midwinter scored a man-up goal at the 13:24 mark of the second quarter.

CNU's John Glaser scored with 7:24 left in the second quarter to make it 3-2 and sparked what proved to be a 5-0 run for the Captains to close the half, sending the hosts to the locker room with a 6-3 lead.

Christopher Newport pushed its advantage to 7-3 when Billy Crist tallied a man-up strike just 29 seconds into the second-half of play.

Jake Leddy answered for R-MC just nine seconds later when he took a feed from Midwinter and scored to make it 7-4.

Leddy then stuck again at the 12:09 mark to make the score 7-5, before a Midwinter man-up score from Jason Andrews with 6:13 to play in the third period pulled R-MC within one at 7-6.

CNU would respond quickly when Chase Walton scored 28 seconds later to put the Captains up 8-6.

Midwinter scored an unassisted goal and then Justin Butler found Brett Austin with just 10 seconds left in the third quarter to knot the game up at 8-8 entering the final frame.

The Yellow Jackets took the lead for good just 57 seconds into the final quarter when Andrews set up Leddy for a goal to make it 9-8.

An Andrews goal just under three minutes later would give R-MC a two score lead and a Tim Rowe strike with just under four minutes to play in the game put the game on ice for the Jackets.

Leddy finished the game with four goals, while Midwinter had a hat trick and Rowe had a pair of goals. Butler dished out three assists, while Midwinter and Andrews each had a pair.

Jason Crawford made 13 saves in net for R-MC and Joe Liberto grabbed four groundballs in the victory.

Randolph-Macon opens up ODAC play on Saturday when it hosts Virginia Wesleyan at 4:00 p.m.
