Mount Saint Vincent Outruns the Terriers

Waterville, Maine Thomas dropped a 14-4 loss to the Dolphins of Mt. St. Vincent Wednesday night at Bill Alfond field on the campus of Colby College. Junior goalkeeper Jesse Morkeski recorded 22 saves for the Terriers in the loss. Dan Cohen recorded the game high points total with two goals and two assists for Mt. St. Vincent.

With the loss the Terriers drop to 0-4 (0-0 NAC) on the season, while Mt. St. Vincent improves their record to 4-2.

The Terriers took the lead early as Sean Machin scored on a feed from freshman Matt Davis. Mt. St. Vincent answered when Rowan Frederick scored an unassisted with 6:30 left in the first quarter. The Dolphins added two more scores before the end of the first quarter and convert on all nine of their clear attempts. Going into the second quarter the score sat at 3-1 in favor of the Dolphins.

The second quarter was all Mt. St. Vincent as they outshot the Terriers 23-5 and outscored the Terriers 3-2. Davis and sophomore midfielder Gunnar Shelton each added a goal for the Terriers in the second. Mt. St. Vincent's Bruce Pappas, Bryan Stein, and Pat McEnaney all scored for the Dolphins. At the half the Dolphins led the Terriers 7-3.

Senior attack Derek Racine started the second half strong for the Terriers as he took a pass from Erik Tiner II and scored cutting the lead down to three at 7-4. The Dolphins answered with a three goal run, including a man up goal with 6:30 left in the third quarter to push the lead to 11-4.

Mt. St. Vincent would go on to score four more goals in the fourth quarter, as well as holding the Terriers to only one shot on net. The final score stood at 14-4 as the Dolphins picked up their fourth victory of the season.

The Terriers will take on Wheelock College on the campus of Pine Manor College on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. The Dolphins also travel to Wheelock College for a 3:00 p.m. game tomorrow.

Waterville, Maine The College of Mount Saint Vincent picked up its second straight win on Wednesday night with a 14-4 victory on the road at Thomas. The Dolphins had four different players score two goals on the night, including senior Dan Cohen (Ardsley, N.Y.), who finished the night with four points.

Thomas got on the board first in the game when Sean Machin converted a feed from Matt Davis with just under nine minutes to play in the opening period. From there, the Mount scored the next three goals to close the first quarter and the next four overall. The run featured four different goal scorers, with Cohen picking up a tally and an assist.

The Dolphins scored four times in the second quarter and after allowing two tallies from the Terries they went into the intermission with a 7-3 lead. The Dolphins went into halftime outshooting Thomas 32-12 after putting 23 shots towards the cage in the second quarter alone.

Mount Saint Vincent would come out of the break and dominate the second half, outscoring the home standing Terries 7-1 overall and 4-0 in the fourth quarter. After Derek Racine scored the bring Thomas to within 7-4 with 8:36 to play in the third period, the Mount closed the game with the last seven tallies to earn the 10 goal victory.

Cohen finished the night with a pair of markers and two assists to go along with four groundballs. He now sits atop the team standings in points with 20 and is tied for the team lead in goals with 11 and assists with nine.

Reigning Skyline Conference Player of the Week Ahmed Ajao (Brooklyn, N.Y.) potted two goals in the game and totaled three points as well as three groundballs. Chris Summo (Bronx, N.Y.) and Matt Desimone (Congers, N.Y.) each scored twice with DeSimone adding an assist.
