Longwood Drops Road Battle Against Albany

ALBANY, N.Y. Longwood suffered a 20-5 loss at Albany on Friday afternoon. Redshirt-freshman Alexa Anderson|Richmond (St. Catherines) and freshman Sara Jacobson|Gainesville (Battlefield) each scored two goals against the Great Danes (6-1). The Lancers host Old Dominion University of the Colonial Athletics Association on Wednesday, March 21 at 4:00 p.m., at the Athletics Complex in Farmville.

UAlbany took control early and often, scoring the game's first seven goals between 28:11 and 23:43 before the Lancers could find the back of the net at 19:45. The Danes first goal came from Amanda Pollock, who was one of three on the roster to score a game-high four goals. The Lancers first goal came unassisted from Anderson that was followed by another four-goal run from the hosts, ending at 13:29 by Pollock. At 12:09 and 2:23, Longwood bookended two Albany goals for a 13-3 home-team advantage at the half.

The first three and last three goals of the second period were netted by Albany, including a seventh goal that came at 15:51, which was finished between the Lancers' only two other goals of the game with 18:00 and 11:16 remaining in regulation by Jacobson and senior Sam Stifler|Jarrettsville, Md. (North Harford).

Both of Jacobson's goals were on her only two free position attempts, while Stifler's goal also came on a free position attempt. The senior added a team-high three draw controls. Sophomore Kathleen Battle|Nellysford (St. Anne's Belfield) grabbed a game-high five ground balls and caused two turnovers, while junior transfer Mollie Zimmerman|Fairpoint, N.Y. (Monroe CC|Catawba College) made 10 saves in 60 minutes of play.
