Purple Knights End California Trip with Win over Argos

BELMONT, Calif. - Saint Michael's won their third straight contest and completed their California spring break by defeating Notre Dame de Namur 12-2 on Saturday at Koret Field. The Purple Knights improve to 4-1, while the Argonauts drop to 1-5.

Junior Pete Donnally (Madison, N.J./Morristown-Beard School) led the Purple Knights with two tallies and two helpers, while senior Kevin Hunt (Johnstown, N.Y./Johnstown) finished with three goals. Senior Max Zuccarini (Medfield, Mass./Medfield/Quinnipiac) and junior Marty Vanzo (Westford, Vt./Essex/Vermont) contributed two markers and one assist each, while sophomore Chris DeMairo (Bethpage, N.Y./Bethpage) earned the victory with two saves. Sophomore Andrew Landers (Manchester, Mass./Proctor Academy) finished with two saves in the final two quarters.

Junior Ryan Jones (San Jose, Calif./Valley Christian) and freshman Carter Olsen (Petaluma, Calif./Casa Grande) led the Argonauts with one goal apiece, while junior Hunter Adams (Austin, Texas/McNeil) made 16 stops for the hosts.

The Purple Knights ran to a 7-1 lead after two quarters as Hunt, Vanzo and Zuccarini tallied two goals apiece and senior Paul Tortora Jr. (Fairfield, Conn./Fairfield Prep) nabbed the other tally for the visitors.

Donnally gave Saint Michael's a seven-goal edge at 8:23 of the third quarter and then the Purple Knights scored the next four markers to take an 12-1 lead with 6:24 remaining in the contest. Carter tallied the second goal for the Argonauts with 2:44 remaining, but Saint Michael's kept them off the board otherwise as they gave up just two shots in the stanza.

Saint Michael's outshot the Argonauts 44-16 and nearly doubled them in ground balls, as they finished with a 30-14 advantage.

The Purple Knights return to action on March 24 when they play at Assumption College for a Northeast-10 Conference match-up at 3:00 p.m.
