Franklin & Marshall Tops Muhlenberg to Win 5th Straight

ALLENTOWN, Pa. Tristan Miller scored three times to lead Franklin & Marshall to an 8-5 victory over Muhlenberg in Centennial Conference (CC) action Saturday night. The Diplomats pick up their fifth straight victory and improved to 6-1 (1-0 CC) while the Mules fell to 2-5 (0-1 CC).

F&M jumped out to a 3-0 lead midway through the second quarter. Zachary Johannes scored unassisted with 3:28 left in the first and Colin McKew found Miller at 10:48 in the second to put the Diplomats up 2-0. A.J. Reichert made it 3-0 at 7:23 in the second, before the Mules scored two straight to come within a goal, 3-2, at 1:17. McKew tallied an unassisted goal with just 12 seconds left in the half to give F&M a 4-2 lead going into the break.

The Diplomats came out strong in the third with three unanswered goals. Miller struck 31 seconds into the quarter off a feed from Kevin Kilpatrick and Evan Baskst found Matt Gillian at 8:55 to put F&M up 6-2. Miller and McKew hooked up again at 4:27 to give F&M a 7-2 edge.

Muhlenberg scored with 2:07 left in the third and added another goal at 9:20 in the fourth to come within three, 7-4, before Jordan Barr put F&M up four, 8-4, with a tally midway through the fourth. The Mules added one with seven minutes remaining in the game to make it 8-5.

Andrew Setian was 9 for 16 from the faceoff X and collected a game-high seven groundballs. Josh Kanter finished with four groundballs while Carlos Palaez scooped up three.

Cameron Setian picked up the win with 16 saves and improved to 5-1. Adam Schlauch took the loss for the Mules.

F&M returns to action on Wednesday when the Diplomats host Ursinus at 4:00 p.m.
