Dolphins Dealt Setback by St. Joseph's in Skyline Opener

Patchogue, N.Y. The College of Mount Saint Vincent dropped its third straight game on Sunday afternoon with a 16-2 defeat at the hands of league rival St. Joseph's-L.I. Sophomore Samantha Ramsden (Warren, R.I.) and newcomer Kelly Fraser (Staten Island, N.Y.) were the goal scorers for the Dolphins.

The Golden Eagles took control of the game in the early going on Sunday and took an 8-0 lead into halftime. Gabby Bourguignon got the scoring started just 46 seconds into the game and Jackie Myers gave St. Joseph's a 2-0 lead inside the first minute of play.

Lisa Terry had a big first half for St. Joseph's, as she netted three goals in the opening 30 minutes, as the Golden Eagles outshot the Dolphins 16-4 before the intermission.

Mount Saint Vincent finally got on the board with just under 14 minutes to play in the game when Kelly Fraser (Staten Island, N.Y.) converted a free-position shot for her fifth goal of the season. Ramsden got in the scoring column with her fourth of the year with 5:33 to play.

Michelle Miller (Chester, Pa.) and Tori Ginrich (Warwick, N.Y.) led the Dolphins with two groundballs each in the game and Colleen Walsh (Manchester, Vt.) rounded out the game with three draw controls.

Terry finished the day with five goals for the Golden Eagles and Nicole Lyman paced the team with four draw controls. Overall in the game, St. Joseph's had four players with at least two goals.

Miller got the nod in goal for the Dolphins and finished up with nine saves, including five in the first half. The Golden Eagles used a pair of net minders, with Erin O'Connor seeing the bulk of action, making five stops.

The Golden Eagles held the edge in shots on the day 31-9 and in draw controls 12-7. Turnovers in the game went 17-12 against the Dolphins.

Following Sunday's loss, Mount Saint Vincent stands at 1-3 overall and 0-1 in league play. The Dolphins will look to stop their three game slide on Wednesday when they play host to New Paltz. Opening Draw is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. at Tibbetts Brook Park.
