Connecticut College Runs by Wheaton for First Win

NEW LONDON, Conn.--Sophomore Lowell Abbott (Manchester, Mass.) netted three goals and assisted on three others to lead Connecticut College to an 18-8 triumph against Wheaton College Sunday afternoon.

The Camels ended the game with an 8-0 run to secure their first win of the season and the first victory for Interim Head Coach Liz Longley. The Lyons slip to 2-2 with the setback.

Junior Bri Miller (Sudbury, Mass.) chipped in with three goals and one assist for the Camels. Libby Nichols (Baltimore, Md.) added three goals of her own. Katleyn Driscoll (Peabody, Mass.), Ashley Crutchfield (Concord, N.H.) and Charlotte McAuley (Summit, N.J.) all contributed with two scores for the hosts.

Wheaton College senior Hailey Colburn (Concord, N.H.) netted a game-high five scores for the Lyons and continues to lead the squad offensively with 18 goals scored.

Charlotte DeSantis (Darien, Conn.) contributed a goal and two assists for the visitors. Junior Kristen Palmer (East Dorset, Vt.) added a goal and 10 ground balls in the setback for the Lyons.

Midway through the second stanza, Wheaton scored three consecutive goals to make it a 10-8 game. Katie Powers (Ashburnham, Mass.) capped the rally for the Lyons, finishing on a feed from DeSantis with 14:44 remaining to make things interesting.

But the Camels responded with a scoring surge of their own to put the game-away. Driscoll buried a free position shot with 13:52 remaining and Crutchfield followed with a goal in transition to make it a 12-8 contest.

The hosts tacked on six more goals to close out the 18-8 win.

The Camels built a 4-0 first half advantage and used a goal from McAuley with 12:32 remaining to take a 7-1 lead.

The Lyons responded though and were within three after Colburn scored her third goal of the half with 1:59 remaining. But Nichols closed out the first half scoring for the home team, executing on a nifty looking spin move with 4.6 seconds left to put the Camels on top 9-5 at the break.

Junior Kelsey Burke (Kingston, N.H.) finished with 11 saves in net for Connecticut College.

Katy Ananian (Belmont, Mass.) stopped five shots in 56:21 of relief duty for the visitors.
