#5 Westminster Routs Utah Valley to Win Fourth Straight

SALT LAKE CITY The fifth-ranked Westminster College men's lacrosse team won for the fourth straight game with an 18-3 win over Utah Valley on Saturday afternoon at Dumke Field.

Westminster is now 7-1 this season and they move to 1-0 in RMLC West play with today's win. The loss drops Utah Valley to 1-3 and 0-1.

The Griffins took control of the game early on a Kevin Gee goal just 30 seconds into the game. That was the first of 10 straight goals by the team over the first quarter and a half. UVU scored at the 6:45 mark of the second quarter for the team's only goal of the first half. Westminster took a 14-1 advantage into the intermission and eventually built the advantage to 16-1.

Gian Sexsmith scored three goals and added two assists for a team-best five points on the afternoon. Collin Madsen also scored three goals while Andy Butterfield and Gee scored twice each. Marshall Serzen recorded 11 ground balls and went 16 of 20 on faceoffs. Chris Burckle made three saves during his time in the Westminster cage and Adam Marfice posted one save.

Westminster fired 43 shots in the game and put 27 of them on cage. They held a 46-27 advantage in ground balls and won 17 of 22 total faceoffs. The Griffins scored on both man-up opportunities and were successful on 29 of their 32 clrea chances.

Jordan Gerber, Bryce Frontenot and Kyle Olsen were the three goal scorers for UVU. Grant Kendall made 13 saves in the Wolverine cage.

Westminster will return to action on Friday when they face Montana State at Dumke Field. The action between the two nationally-ranked teams will begin at 4:30 p.m.
