SPRINGFIELD, Mass. Powered by a three goal performance by freshman attack Geoff Kennedy (Gloucester, Mass.), No. 11 Saint Anselm defeated the Yellow Jackets of American International by a 12-3 score Tuesday evening at Ronald J. Abdow Field.

With the victory, the nationally-ranked Hawks improve to 4-1 overall on the season while collecting their second Northeast-10 Conference victory of the season (2-0). The Yellow Jackets remain winless on the season (0-5) while dropping their second conference contest of the year (0-2).

Through the first half of action, the Hawks jumped out to a 7-1 lead. Senior midfielder Michael DeVita (Annandale, N.J.) sparked the Saint Anselm offense by tallying a shorthanded goal with 5:35 remaining in the first quarter to place the Hawks on the board first. Kennedy's sixth of the season and junior midfielder Daniel Sullivan's (Rumford, R.I.) second strike of the year would conclude the scoring in the first quarter for both sides.

In the second quarter, Saint Anselm outscored the Yellow Jackets four to one. Sophomore attack Andrew Messner (Wakefield, R.I.) built upon his first quarter offense, adding two goals to pair with his two first quarter helpers for four points (2-2=4) through the first 30 minutes of action. Sophomore Ryan Mee (Medway, Mass.) sent home a Sullivan feed for his fourth tally of the season to increase the Saint Anselm advantage.

In the second half of the game, both Kennedy and sophomore midfielder Jake Mallinson (Middletown, R.I.) would score two goals to buttress the Saint Anselm lead in the closing stages of the game. Captain Tyler Steinetz (Sparta, N.J.) also found the scoresheet, striking for his fifth goal of the season and second goal of the game to open up fourth quarter scoring for either side.

For the Yellow Jackets, freshman attack Bryce Serriello potted all three American International goals on the afternoon with classmate Matthew Biggs collecting an assist to round out the scoresheet for the home team.

Hawks goaltender Jonathon O'Reilly (Plano, Texas) recorded his fourth-straight victory between the pipes for Saint Anselm, turning aside 8 of 11 shots on goal for the win.
