Hartwick Powers Past Cobleskill to Even Record

ONEONTA, NY- Nine players scored for Hartwick, as the men's lacrosse team had no trouble with visiting SUNY Cobleskill defeating them 18-3 on Wednesday afternoon at Wright Stadium. The Hawks even their record at 3-3, while Cobleskill remains winless at 0-4.

Harry Hughes (Holtsville, NY/Sachem East) led the attack for 'Wick as he scored six goals. Phil Schaefer (Holbrook, NY/Sachem North) scored four times. Cody Ciolino (Huntington Station, NY/Walt Whitman) had two goals. Joe Shields (Loudonville NY/Shaker), Irvens Dupuy (Norwalk, CT/Norwalk), Ian Putnam (North Pomfret, VT/Proctor Academy), Zach Gropper (Syosset, NY/Syosset), Shane Latsko (East Longmeadow, MA/East Longmeadow), and Austin Fox (Round Rock, TX/Stony Point) all chipped in one goal apiece.

Pete Gonzalez, Brian Murphy, and Dan Scott all scored one goal each for the Fighting Tigers.

Hartwick dominated in every facet of the game and led 13-0 in the second quarter. The Hawks scored eight times in the first quarter and five more times in the second until Gonzalez hooked up with Murphy for Cobleskill's first goal of the game.

The Hawks scored four more times spanning the second and third quarters before Gonzalez would score for Cobleskill with 21 seconds remaining in the third. Hartwick eased up on offense in the fourth quarter as Cobleskill would provide the only goal courtesy of Scott with 9:15 left to play.

Hartwick goaltender Carl Lengel (Lynbrook, NY/Lynbrook) picked up his first win of the season between the pipes. He stopped eight shots in 50:00 of playing time. Matthew Galvin (Medway, MA/Medway) relieved him in the fourth period and made two saves. Eric Randazzo received the loss for the Fighting Tigers. He had five saves in 23:31 of playing time. Scott Anthony replaced him and played the final 36:25 and recorded seven saves.

The Hawks dominated in shots, 56-19 and led in groundballs 40-27. Rocky Dinga (Binghamton, NY/Chenango Valley) and Connor Hudson (Moriches, NY/William Floyd) both had six groundballs each to lead Hartwick. 'Wick also won 19 of 24 face-offs.

Hartwick will host Castleton State next Tuesday at 3:00 p.m. at Wright Stadium.
