Big First Half, Balanced Attack Lead Royals Past King's

University of Scranton jumped out to a 10-goal lead at halftime and 10 different players scored in a 15-8 victory over King's College on Thursday evening at Fitzpatrick Field.

Freshman midfielder Emily Goss (Morristown, N.J./Morristown) led the offense with three goals, giving her a team-leading 22 on the season. Sophomore attacker Kerry Sullivan (Oceanport, N.J./Shore Regional) had two goals and two assists for the Royals, who improved to 5-2.

Scranton also received two goals and an assist from junior midfielder Jilliana DePaolera (Kinnelon, N.J./Kinnelon) and senior attacker Kaela Mahon (Avon-by-the-Sea, N.J./Saint Rose). With her three points, DePaolera now has 98 in her career.

DePaolera had all three of her points in the opening 11 minutes as the Royals jumped out to a 6-1 lead. They stretched that advantage to 12-2 by halftime as they outshot the Lady Monarchs, 18-11, in the opening 30 minutes.

Scranton stretched the lead to 14-2 before King's scored six of the game's final seven goals.

The Royals also received goals from junior attacker Deanna Giorno (Warrington, Pa./Central Bucks South), freshman midfielder Emily Mulligan (Sloatsburg, N.Y./Suffern), junior midfielder Leslie Connelly (Long Valley, N.J./West Morris Central), sophomore midfielder Mariah Guy (Ocean Township, N.J./Ocean Township), sophomore attacker Christine Dredger (Glen Head, N.Y./Lady of Mercy) and sophomore defender Erin Green (Merrick, N.Y./Sandford Calhoun).

Sophomore attacker Kaitlin Lazorko (Philadelphia, Pa./Nazareth Academy) had two assists, giving her a team-high 11 on the season, while Giorno, Dredger and freshman attacker Sheila Mulligan (Ardmore, Pa./Archbishop Carroll) each had one assist.

King's was led by sophomore forward Amanda Harney (Neshanic Station, N.J./Somerville), who scored a game-high four goals.

Scranton returns to action on Saturday, March 24, when it travels to Annville, Pa. to face Lebanon Valley in a non-conference game at 1:00 p.m.
