Big Blue Gets Back in the Win Column at Manhattanville

PURCHASE, N.Y. -- University of New England scored all four goals in the third period to extend a one-goal edge to five, on its way to an 11-6 non-conference victory over Manhattanville at Field Thursday afternoon (Mar. 22).

The triumph brings an end to the three-game skid for the Nor'easters (5-3), while the Valiants (1-6) fall for the sixth consecutive outing.

UNE was led by junior Tyler Thomas (Mount Pleasant, N.Y.) and older brother Dylan Thomas, who each recorded three goals and two assists in the match. First-years Geoff Bruno (Durham, Conn.) and Eddie Burke (Windsor, Conn.) added one goal and one assist apiece.

Sophomore midfielder Dan O'Gorman (Putnam Valley, N.Y.) tossed in two assists, while grabbing a game-best nine ground balls and winning 10 of 12 face-offs.

Senior Nate Porter (Cohasset, Mass.) made 12 saves and allowed five goals in just over 55 minutes of action to earn the decision for Big Blue.

The Nor'easters never trailed in the contest, and led 3-2 after 15 minutes before holding a 5-4 cushion at halftime.

For Manhattanville, Corey Steimel and Connor Castleman both scored twice, and Will Sahakian chipped in with three helpers. Goalie Dom Poletto turned aside 15 shots and picked up eight ground balls.

UNE's next date is Saturday (12:00 p.m.) at Western Connecticut State University. The Valiants head to Merchant Marine Academy on Wednesday.
