Sprang Nets Seven to Lead Beavers by Tigers

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. Junior attacker Jameson Sprang scored seven goals and sophomore goalkeeper Julie Baharestani made nine saves to help Babson College post a 16-8 victory over Colorado College on Thursday afternoon at Stewart Field.

Playing back-to-back games for the second time this week kept the Tigers one step behind the well-rested Beavers from the outset.

Baharestani robbed freshman attacker Madeline Pitkin on a shot from just outside the crease 23 seconds into the game, and sophomore midfielder Misha Beatty struck for the first of her three goals 1:22 later to give Babson a lead it would never lose.

Senior attacker Grace Maloney finally put the Tigers on the board 8:34 into the contest, and after senior attacker Colleen Mulligan scored for the Beavers, CC pulled to within 3-2 on a free-position goal be sophomore attacker Elise Burchard.

That, however, was as close as Colorado College would get.

Babson capitalized on a 10-3 advantage in draw controls and a 20-10 discrepancy in fouls to maintain possession and close out the half on a 6-1 run.

Junior midfielder Ginna Oates gave the Tigers a boost when she scored 1:55 into the second half after taking a feed from freshman midfielder Dylan Voneiff, and CC was within five goals at 10-5 after Burchard answered a Beaver goal.

With the home-field advantage negated by playing for the fourth time in the last six days, Colorado College was unable to mount one of its signature comebacks.

The Beavers, who played most recently on Monday, scored four of the next five goals to regain the momentum.

Maloney paced the Tigers with three goals, while Burchard added a pair.

Junior goaltender Abby Fink made 10 saves.

Babson scored on eight of their 15 free-position shots while CC converted on three of nine attempts.

The Tigers saw their six-game unbeaten streak come to an end and slipped to 6-1. The Beavers improved to 3-2.

Colorado College returns to Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play on Saturday when Sewanee visits Stewart Field at 11:00 a.m.
