Southern Maine Rolls to Win at Saint Joseph's

PORTLAND, Maine -- Sophomore Jacki Kelly (Brunswick, Maine) equaled the school single-game record with nine points to lead the Southern Maine Huskies to an 18-7 victory over the Saint Joseph's Monks in a non-conference game Thursday afternoon at Memorial Field.

The win was the second straight for the Huskies and improved their overall mark to 4-3. The Monks dropped their second straight game to fall back to .500 at 2-2.

Kelly had three goals and a single-game record six assists for her nine points. The nine points equaled the record shared by three other players. Kelly's six assists broke the previous single-game mark of four assists shared by three players.

Junior Shelby Turcotte (Lewiston, Maine) and sophomore Rosie Forster (Andover, Mass.) each his four goals for the Huskies. Sophomore Jenna Cyr (Limerick, Maine/Massabesic) chipped in three goals, and junior Lauren Santo (Salem, N.H.) had two goals and an assist. Sophomore goalie Kim Vogel (Sanford, Maine) registered eight saves.

Junior Cassie Diplock (Augusta, Maine/Cony) led the Monks offense with two goals and one assist. Junior Erika Waterhouse (South Portland, Maine) and senior Amelia Santos (Beverly, Mass./Bishop Fenwick) each had a goal and an assist. Sophomore goalie Haley Nason (Saco, Maine/Thornton Academy) played the first half and recorded four saves. Classmate Elizabeth Giacchino (Melrose, Mass./St. Mary) played the second half and stopped five shots.

Tied 3-3 after nine minutes of play, the Huskies scored eight consecutive goals to take a commanding 11-3 lead. Forster ignited the run with a pair of goals, followed by a pair of free-position markers from Kelly. Forster, Turcotte, Cyr and junior Jess Gassman (Kennebunk, Maine) found the net before Santos snapped the run of Huskies goals with 1:52 left before halftime.

The Huskies opened the second half with four goals, including two from Turcotte, over the first 15 minutes to increase their lead to 15-4. Each side had three goals over the final 15 minutes to account for the final tally.

Southern Maine will play a rescheduled game on Saturday (4:00 p.m.) hosting Endicott College at Hannaford Field. Saint Joseph's is off until next Wednesday (7:30 p.m.) when it hosts Emerson College at Memorial Field.
