Gannon Rolls to Third Straight Win at Edinboro

EDINBORO, Pa. Seven different Lady Knights scored goals during the opening 21 minutes as Gannon rolled past Edinboro 15-3 Friday afternoon during Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) action.

Playing on the road for the fifth time during its first seven matches, Gannon wasted little time taking control. Christie Valentine (Friendship, Md./Annapolis Area Christian) opened the scoring 22 seconds into the contest, starting a 4-0 run during the first seven minutes and nine seconds. Four different Lady Knights scored during the opening run.

Edinboro tallied its only goal of the first half on Rebecca Zajac's goal with 19:17 showing on the clock. It was all Gannon for the remainder of the half. The visitors found the back of the net five more times during a span of eight minutes and 39 seconds. Sarah Grzybinski's (New Market, Md./ Linganore) score with 9:11 remaining capped the first-half scoring. Neither team could manage a goal during the final nine minutes of the half as Gannon went to the intermission with a 9-1 lead.

Shannon Rohrich's unassisted goal 1:18 into the second half cut the deficit to 9-2, before Gannon rattled off six consecutive goals. Kimberly Neagle (Auburn, N.Y./Auburn) started the run by scoring her own hat trick in the span of 84 seconds. Jess Fugate's (Wooster, Ohio/Wooster) second goal of the match pushed the Gannon lead to 15-2 with 5:36 to play. Edinboro added one last unassisted score at the 2:41 mark to account for the final 15-3 score.

Neagle led all scorers with four goals. Rachel DerCola (Rochester, N.Y./Brighton) recorded two goals and a team-high three assists while Caitlyn Fisher (Cypress, Texas/Cy-Fair) chipped in two goals and two assists.

Fugate, Grzybinski and Stevie Lombardoni (Mexico, N.Y./Mexico) accounted for two goals each. Margaret Maslyn (Penn Yan, N.Y./Penn Yan Academy) recorded eight saves while winning her third consecutive decision in goal. The Lady Knights produced a 30-13 edge in shots.

Gannon improved to 4-3 overall and 2-0 in the PSAC with its third consecutive victory. Edinboro dropped to 2-3 overall and 0-2 in conference play. In the process, the Lady Knights moved to 5-0 all-time against the Fighting Scots. Head coach Lindsey Lowman's squad returns to action Friday, March 30 against seventh-ranked West Chester at Gannon University Field. Game time is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
