Kutztown Can't Stop East Stroudsburg

EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. An 8-1 run by East Stroudsburg proved too much for Kutztown to overcome in a 12-5 loss to the Warriors in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference action.

ESU (2-4, 1-1 PSAC) jumped ahead 7-1 at the half and scored the first goal of the second half before Lauren Schlitt (Baldwin, N.Y./Oceanside) scored unassisted to make it 8-2 with 25:28 to play.

After three more goals by the Warriors, the Golden Bears (3-3, 0-2 PSAC) closed the game with a 3-1 run. Rosa Buffolino (Monroe Twp., N.J./Monroe Twp.) scored twice before Leeann Pica (Levittown, Pa./Neshaminy) closed the scoring with her only tally of the game.

Alexis Williams (Woolwich Twp., N.J./Kingsway) returned in goal for KU after a two-game absence and made 16 saves.

In addition to her late goal, Pica added two ground balls, five draw controls and two caused turnovers. Megan Schwar (Alpha, N.J./Phillipsburg) had four ground balls and forced a pair of turnovers.

Emily Solt (Bowmanstown, Pa./Concord (Del.)) scored KU's first half goal. Gina Carmina (Flanders, N.J./Mt. Olive) and Katie Feairheller (Ocean City, N.J./Ocean City) each had assists.

For the Warriors, Sarah Ginn had a game-high five points with three goals and a pair of assists.

Katie Zollo made five saves in 43 minutes before giving way to Amanda Simms, who stopped three shots in the remainder of the contest.

KU will look to get back in the win column on Tuesday, March 27 when Philadelphia University visits Kutztown.
