No. 7 NYIT Rallies to Down No. 9 C.W. Post

OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. (March 24, 2012) – Junior attacker Justin Patterson (Corning, N.Y.) led C.W. Post with two goals but it was not enough as NYIT rallied to defeat the Pioneers, 11-6, in an East Coast Conference men's lacrosse clash at President's Stadium.

NYIT improves to 7-2 overall and 2-1 in conference play while C.W. Post drops to 3-3 overall and 1-3 in the ECC.

NYIT was led in scoring by Luke Miller, Bobby Calhoun and Ryan Brunet, who each scored two goals.

C.W. Post scored the game's first goal in 12:10 in the first quarter on a shot from senior attacker Doug Hoch (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y.)

The Bears matched it with a goal from Jason Smith at 10:14 and went ahead on a goal from Ryan Brunet at 4:34.

The Pioneers evened the score with a goal from Patterson at the 59 second mark in the first. Sophomore midfielder Octovio Bernabo (Mahopac, N.Y.) scored at 11:19 in the second quarter to put the Pioneers back on top.

NYIT tied the game up again with a man-up goal from Brandon Gamblin at 6:58 before C.W. Post scored two more in the quarter from junior midfielder Dennis Gannon (Huntington, N.Y.) and Patterson to take a 5-3 lead at the half.

The third quarter belonged to NYIT as it outscored the Pioneers, 4-0, including two goals from Miller at the 48 and 9-second mark.

The Bears added three more unanswered goals in the third quarter to push its lead to 10-5 with 7:57 to play in regulation.

Senior attacker Eddie Plompen (West Islip, N.Y.) found the net for a man-up goal at 4:14.

NYIT's Tom Duggan scored the final goal of the game with 2:35 to play.

NYIT outshot C.W. Post, 36-29, and held a 27-24 advantage on ground balls. Both teams were 10-20 on face-offs.

C.W. Post returns to action on Saturday, March 31 at No. 1 Mercyhurst at 12:00 p.m.
