Ursinus Dispatches Dickinson for Centennial Victory

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. Seven was the lucky number for women's lacrosse as Ursinus (5-3, 2-0 Centennial) scored seven goals in each half on their way to a 14-9 win over Dickinson (4-5, 1-1 Centennial) Saturday afternoon at Patterson Field.

With the score tied 8-all with 19:01 left in the game, Ursinus outscored the Red Devils 6-1 over the final 19:01 to take the win and improve to 2-0 in the conference.

Ursinus was led by three goals from senior attack Emily Diehl (Lebanon, N.J./Voorhees), three goals from junior midfielder Taylor Egolf (Wynnewood, Pa./Lower Merion ) and three goals from freshman midfielder Kitty Dawson (Hillsborough, N.J./Hillsborough ).

Senior midfielder Alyssa Thren (Barto, Pa./Upper Perkiomen), junior midfielder Elizabeth Chatburn (Dresher, Pa./Upper Dublin), senior attack Kim Peifer (Collegeville, Pa./Methacton), junior attack Lauren Garganio (Medford, N.J./Shawnee) and sophomore attack Amber Moyer (Womelsdorf, Pa./Conrad Weiser) each added a goal of their own.

Thren finished with four draw controls, while Chatburn and sophomore midfielder Caroline Cannon (Garrison, N.Y./James I. O'Neill) each had three. Peifer scooped six ground balls and Thren added five more. In goal, sophomore goalkeeper Riley Pembroke (Great Falls, Va./Langley) had seven saves.

Ursinus will travel to Washington College on Wednesday.

(Collegeville, Pa.) Dickinson College suffered a 14-9 loss at Ursinus College on Saturday.

The Red Devils struck first, scoring four minutes into the contest, and went up 2-0 at the 23:57 mark. The Bears answered with three straight as the teams traded goals throughout the course of the first half.

Kaity Moore (Chestertown, Md./St. Andrew's, Del.) put the Devils on the board, scoring off a Brett Whelan (Arlington, Mass./Arlington) and first-year Ali Dawson (Carle Place, N.Y./Carle Place) struck at the 23:57 mark.

The Bears answered with three straight before Dawson finished a free position shot to tie the game, 3-3, with just under 15 minutes to play in the half. First-year Carly O'Brien (Cranbury, N.J./Princeton Day) put the Devils up, 4-3, with 13:03 on the clock.

The Bears went on a 4-2 run to close the half with a slim 7-6 advantage at the break. Kim Peifer tallied a goal and an assist to lead the way. Dawson scored off an assist from O'Brien to break up the run, tying the game, 5-5.

Kelly Haglund (Chevy Chase, Md./Stone Ridge School of the Sacred Heart) converted a free position attempt with 3:44 to play in the half after the Bears answered with a pair to make the score, 7-6, at halftime.

The Red Devils came out of the break, scoring twice in the opening two minutes to take an 8-7 advantage. O'Brien found the net, just 54 seconds into the half and Dawson tallied another free position goal to put Dickinson in front.

Ursinus would regroup, however, outscoring the Devils 7-1 over the final 19 minutes of the game. The Bears struck twice in a span of two minutes as Peifer tallied another assist to give the Bears the lead at the 17:15 mark.

Megan Taylor (Kensington, Md./Academy of the Holy Cross) closed out the scoring for the Devils, finishing an assist from classmate Liz DeTour (New Canaan, Conn./New Canaan) with 1:32 remaining in the game.

The Bears recorded three hat-tricks on the day with Emily Diehl leading the way with three goals and two assists. Peifer tallied a goal and three assists to go with six ground balls. Riley Pembroke made seven saves as the Bears improve to 5-3 overall and 2-0 in the Centennial Conference.

Dawson scored a game-high four goals, going 2-or-2 on free positions. O'Brien tallied a pair of goals and two assists while Whelan controlled four draws, three ground balls and caused a turnover to go with an assist.

Junior Amanda Morse (Massapequa, N.Y./Massapequa) made 11 saves in goal for the Devils, adding four ground balls.

The Red Devils slip to 4-5 overall and 1-1 in the Centennial Conference. They return home to host Gettysburg College on Tuesday at 4:30 pm.
